Biography
Dr Steven Lane is an experienced clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre Chermside. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the University of Queensland and subsequently completed his clinical training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital. From 2008-2011 he undertook a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, focusing on new treatments for acute myeloid leukaemia. In 2011, he returned to Australia and took up a position as clinical haematologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and as a research laboratory head at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.
Dr Lane’s lab concentrates on basic science research to discover new treatments for myeloid disorders such as acute myeloid leukaemia. See here for more information. He has published many highly influential research publications in this field and many of his discoveries are currently being tested in clinical trials internationally. In 2017 he was named an inaugural CSL Centenary Fellow, a highly prestigious award to support and develop his research program into finding new cures for leukaemia. See here for more information.
Dr Lane is experienced in caring for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant blood disorders with a particular focus on myeloid disorders such as acute myeloid leukaemia, myelodysplasia and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
